Hi.
I have been looking for info. about how to turn a spin top that will whistle, sing or humm.I have had almost no luck so far.Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Mel Reed

I have a couple of old Duncan Whistler spin tops. It's been a while since I've thrown one, but from what I remember, it is somewhat hollow, with a couple of holes drilled around the perimeter at the tops widest point. What I don't remember is if the top has a metal disc with a hole in the middle that was recessed into the top of the top. I know that was a big part of getting the wooden Duncan Whistler yo-yo's to whistle.

If I can remember, I'll take a picture tonight and upload it for you if someone else hasn't already answered your question.

This is the top I was referring to. There are 8 holes drilled around the perimeter, each about 1/8" dia. The top of the top has been drill out to a depth below the holes around the perimeter. The coin on the top is just a thin piece of metal with a 3/32" dia. hole. You could probably use some shim stock (.030") and get the same effect.

If you want to go all out, you can even order the plastic tips from www.yoyoguy.com. The plastic tips seem to spin smoother for me on the one's I've turned.

Hope this helps.

Matt
