My brother in law passed away a month ago and my sister in law gave me a piece of cherry trunk that they have had a long time. It is 7 inches thick, 14 inches wide and 26 inches long. It is dry and has some cracking. I want to try to make something for my sister in law and niece from this piece but I don't know what would work best so I need some help. I know that I can't work with it with this size so I am going to have to resaw it for whatever I do.

If it has a lot of cracks cut through the cracks to see what sizes you can save. You will probably have a lot of spindle stock and if your lucky something large enough to make a small hollow vessel.
With spindle stock you can make a lot of things. Try turning an hour glass. Buy some of the garden tools or ice cream scoop and make handles for them. I'll send you plans to make a handled mirror if you have a piece 5 1/2" square by 3/4" thick and a handle blank 10" x 3/4" to 1" square.
You can make Christmas ornaments. It only takes a square block about 2 to 3" square to make the ball and the finial can be almost any length.
I'm sure there's more but I'm drawing a blank right now.

You may be able to slice into thin pieces, then glue back together, eliminating cracks and getting some interesting patterns by re-orienting the grain....have fun, and post results!! 😀😀

You could make a pair of bowls a 14" and 12"
our a bowl and and a cutting board or two.
if the splits are minor
you have enough stock to make a pair of stools
2 13x13 x 1.5 for the seats
8 or 6 1.5x1.5x27 for legs
(you need to decided on counter height or bar height)
also 3 legs or 4)
and lots of material for the stretchers
