There has been a few pieces of Tamarind wood on the market lately. I see it is quite widespread throughout the world, but would like to know the nation of source for the wood that has been available lately......anyone know?

Looks like it could come from Africa, Asia, Australia, Mexico, and South America.......

thanks, ooc

You might try Domex Hardwoods in Philadelphia as they carry turning blanks in a lot of hard-to-find stuff

You can also input your zip code and search radius on woodfinder http://www.woodfinder.com/ to see what pops up in your neighborhood.

Mark.....

Not much luck with these suggestions, but I did find a mention of a recent shipment of spalted Tamarind from Laos, and my bowl looks very similar, so I guess I'll go with that.......

it grows in a lot of places, "tamarindo" is a popular flavoring in Mexican cooking.

Most all of the spalted tamarind I've seen for sale is labeled as being from southeast Asia.

Cook Woods has a few blanks: https://www.cookwoods.com/shop/category/bowl-blanks/?s_cs=1&s=tamarind&x=0&y=0

I've seen some spindle blanks at Woodcraft in the past as well.

Thanks Shawn......matter of fact, it was Cook Woods that identified their current stock of Tamarind as coming from Laos. I didn't buy my Tamarind from them, as mine came from CSUSA in the spring of last year.
