Any one out there have experience sharpening the Sorby Ring Tool ? The bevel is on the outside of the ring and awkward to grind evenly. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. This is a great tool for end grain hollowing, hope we can find a good solution. 😕

Thanks,

Clint

I don't have the sorby tool but I sharpen all my ring tools with a white grinding wheel I purchased for the Dremel and only sharpen the inside. I put the grinder in my drill press and made a wooden jig to hold the ring tool. Then I just crank lay it on the drill press and move the grinder inside the ring. Then I just move the ring around so the grinder hits all of the inside.
If necessary I will hit the outside with a diamond hone by hand.

Sorby ring tool

Thanks Richard and John for your help with this. The Sorby site was most informative and this is what I will do.

John , may I ask what kind of tools you have ? I also have the Oneway Termite which sounds similar to yours.

Thanks again for your responses .

Clint

Clint I have the Oneway ring tool and a homemade one as well as some homemade hook tools. However since I started using the Hunter tool I probably will not use the others again. The Hunter tool cuts just like my ring tools but doesn't ever need sharpening.
