Showing respect for a deceased club member

A member of my club recently passed away and his widow gave the club all of his rough turned bowls. The bowls were brought to a club meeting and were offered to anyone wishing to finish them.
I am asking if anyone has experience or opinion regarding the proper protocol for signing the bowls.

that's exactly what I did. My friend Joe Looper passed away and Gail gave me several of his roughed out blanks and asked if I would turn some for the kids. I signed them with my name and Joe's.
