Has anyone had any dealings with the sharpfast tool sharpening system?
I just purchased one and wondered if there was anything special I should be aware of.
From what little I have used it so far, it seems to be a great setup.

thanks

Make sure the gig stays clear of the wheel when you are done.

The sharp fasts were on the grinders where I taught or assisted. They were chewed up from inattentive students or (poor instruction)
The way these were set up they could and had fallen against the wheel often.
Even with the grinder off a lot of metal gets ground off the jig when it is left to flop and become a wheel break.

Maybe there was a missing stop that prevents wheel contact.

Students chew up the Verigrinds too but they don't leave it against the running wheel.

Our last club meeting was on sharpening, and our demonstrator used the Sorby version of this gouge jig. I don't know which came first. I am surprised that they are not more popular. Only the attachment part/top of the jig pivots so you can't slip off the edge of the grinder wheel. Probably simpler for beginners than Oneway or Ellsworth style jigs.

Personally, I am a free hand platform sharpener.

SharpFast

I have one of those and have been very pleased with it. It is my understanding that they sell a lot of them to schools, because of the safety feature of not sliding of off the grinding wheel. I hope you will be pleased also. Good Luck and Happy Turning.
