Wasn't in the mood to turn yesterday but set up the grinder and the Wolverine setup. Went through all my tools and sharpened them. Today I did some turning for practice. Makes a big difference! I turned some small tree limbs and some square pieces with the roughing gouge. I decided to try the skew. I started as I have seen videos on this...very carefully to avoid a catch. I turned four pieces and saw fine dust coming off. I checked the surface with the calibrated finger tips before and after the skew. Makes a big difference, too. Wood was cherry and an unknown that resulted in a very smooth finish.
Next is to check the grind on my bowl gouge. It is a Benjamin's Best and had a short wing on a parabola flute. Extended the wing and looking to try it out tomorrow. I am only turning about 90 minutes when the knee starts to protest. Tried turning on a stool but didn't care for it.
Remember- One good turn deserves another!
