Green Wood Sealers?

I have been away from the log chasing and green bowl drying for too many years while I did my architectural turning work. Now that I'm back to scrounging logs and chasing the tree removal trucks I see there are more choices for sealers. Specifically, I see that Craft Supplies has a wax emulsion that appears to be what I used to buy from them with a different label, and then I see there is Anchor Seal.

What are the log harvester/ bowl turners using these days?

I do a lot of processing turning blanks from logs (cutting up dogwood and mulberry this week) and I still use Anchorseal. If you use a fair amount it is a LOT cheaper in volume. Some years ago I bought a 55 gallon drum full, sold a bunch, and still have some left. When I run out I'll either do that again or order a 5-gal bucket. The stuff is ridiculously expensive by the gallon from a retail store.

Ditto what John said. I have played with canning wax and dipping smaller logs or bowl blanks. I have used stretch wrap and plastic garbage bags as a quick alternative. It's hard to beat Anchorseal. Buy it in quantity and go in with some friends. We usually buy 5 gallons at a time at the club and sell if off in gallon jugs. If you do that don't use milk jugs to store it in. They break down and it leaks. use something like empty bleach jugs.

Our club buys Anchorseal in 55 gallon drums and then fills gallon jugs for members. Ditto on not using milk jugs. I've had a couple of them disintegrate in my steel storage cabinets and the mess is just plain awful. My favorite jugs are the gallon Gatorade jugs. They are heavy duty. Get the jugs at Walmart for $3.98 and as a bonus, they come filled with Gatorade. 🙄

After some more research I found that the stuff Craft Supplies sells is Anchor Seal from U.C. Coatings. I bought a 5 gallon bucket of the Original Formula, not #2, direct from U.C.
