Scroll Chuck Question

Who makes the largest 4 jaw scroll chuck in terms of body diameter?

The Vicmarc VM150 is 6 inches in diameter. Second place is essentially a tie between the Vicmarc VM120 and the Nova Titan ... both claim to be 5 inches in diameter. Third place seems to belong to the Oneway Stronghold at 4½ inches in diameter. The Vicmarc VM150 and VM120 use the same jaws which includes a huge selection of various types. The largest dovetail size is 223 mm (approx 9") expansion or 200 mm (approx 8") clamping ... these are the perfect circle diameters, not the largest diameters. I also have the 485 mm bowl jaws (Vicmarc equivalent to Oneway Jumbo jaws and Nova Cole jaws). Any of these chucks will hold any tenon that is within the range of the jaws on the chuck. The main advantage of the VM150 over the VM120 is the quick action feature. The main disadvantage is the weight. Perhaps you could say where you are going with this question. For what it's worth, biggest is not the best way to select a chuck.

I was going to say the same thing, why do you need such a big chuck? I haven't encountered anything yet that my Vicmarc 120's can't handle.

And ... most of the time I use a Oneway Talon or Vicmarc VM100. One problem with big chucks is that they are .... big. They get in the way when you really need to get your bowl gouge close to the foot.

Please don't tempt me, I do not own a VM 100. I confessed in a prior thread how many chucks I own...

I was looking at your web site. I was wondering if you are aware you have a page that needs to be finished.

Who has time to update their website these days, I spent 16 hours yesterday working in the shop getting some tools finished up so I could ship the orders out today?
