I use a resist. That stretches and compresses a little. So it conforms to curves within limits.

Trent Bosch sells sheets

Most sandblast resists are for flat surfaces (glass stone sign boards.). They will work on flatish woodturnings like platter rims or cylindrical turnings. The #T226
Long thing things work well.

I also wrote an article in the December 2016 AAW journal.


I used a vinyl cutter to cut the feathers on the adhesive backed resist. These Feathers are easy to cut by hand five straight lines and one curve.
Dragon flies are easy to cut by hand too.
Put the resist on, blast, airbrush black, remove resist. Naptha removes any adhesive residue,

There was a lot of good info in the swat link. Thank you! The cutter was a little pricy but would be worth every penny if you did a lot of detailed work.
