Salt bowl

My wife asked for a salt bowl. The kind to sit on the counter next to where she is cooking. She watches some cooking shows ans sees them us them to add salt to the food. She wants it to be covered to keep the moisture out. I made one out of Purple Heart and Maple. My question is what kind of finish should I put on the inside?

As long as the salt stays dry, it probably doesn't matter. If it gets wet that's going to be the least of your concerns

I've used a Red Oak lidded box for salt going on 2-3 years. As I recall I put on a quick wiping coat of shellac inside and out and that was it. The salt has always remained dry and just fine between uses.

No problem there, either. Nearly 3500 of 'em to pick from, especially if you want to make enough cellars to put around the table for guests, too.
