Its a sad day. The Symposium is about to start and I am in my office. Carol cried a few crocidile tears in another thread but said she had a turning 'play date' set for next week. What are others that can not attend doing to get over there lack of symposium depression?

One of the reason I can't go is that I need to run a charity golf outing Friday, so at least I'll do a little good in the community. Saturday I'll be demo-ing at a park for a first annual folk art festival. They have a hope of starting a folk art school at this location which may be good for woodturners of the area in the future.

I sincerely hope the 2008 Symposium is a grand success. My wife and I where talking last night that we are just going to have say more excuses we are going in the future.

Sad Day (Not)! Symposiums are not my cup of tea so I guess I will dodge the rain and turn, turn, turn. I hope that this year is the best Symposium so far and that everyone has a great time.😀

Painting

I will be painting new sunroom on the back of the house. Of course that came about because I built a new shop (which still needs paint). I'll settle for going to SWAT in Waco.

Sad day my A**

How can getting ready to have the weekend with the longest day be sad? Most cultures have celebrated the summer solstice for millennia. Monuments are built to calculate the exact time.

I for one will be celebrating pagan style at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.

No tears for me. I've actually always been disappointed that the symposium is almost always around this particular weekend. There is just way too much other good stuff always going on.

I really want to go to the symposium, but when it comes down to the choice of spending the Solstice indoors in a crowded convention center or outside enjoying the longest day of the year...one of the few true holidays, backed by most religions, cultures, and most importantly the cycles of the very solar system that we live in.

It just doesn't seem right.

sad day, More like hectic day, am having a party for 80 people to celebrate one of the boys engagement. wedding will be next year, but they wanted to have a party this year. sorry i agreed to let them use the yard, been working on it for two weeks.

Oh well, there's always next year.

how to cheer up a sad day

I had planned on going to the symposium but the timing just didn't work this year.

So instead I'll be working with the 800 pounds of cherry I hauled home on Wednesday. Now that's a good way to forget that I'm not at the symposium.

This Weekend

I was kept here at home, instead of Richmond, due to work related timing. Things should have worked out, but didn't. So I was looking at painting some trim on the house and maybe turning something.

I started the painting tonight, and my neighbor came over. He had a walnut tree that has fallen over due to waterlogged ground near the creek. He was looking at some help with cutting it up.

Looks like I may score some burls and a couple of nice bowl blanks out of the deal. So I can add walnut to the maple drying at my place.

Sierra Summer Festival

Brujo,

This that the one in Boonville? I'm in Redwood Valley. There are fires in the area and the smoke is thick in Ukiah, so be prepared.

Sad Day indeed...

What kills me is Richmond used to be in my 'backyard'; a 45 minute drive. Now it's hundreds of miles away... So to console myself, I turned my first pens this week. First several came out pretty good! Made some out of tigerwood, spalted apple and Rosewood. Now I'm out of pen kits so I'll have to spend more money. Money, the bane of my life... Oh well, I figure I'm saving a lot of money by not going to Richmond!

Don't You Owe Me Something

FRANK KOBILSEK,
Thanks Frank
