While perusing the newest issue of the AAW magazine, I noticed the ad for Rikon, where they are showing their new chucks. They look very similar to the Nova chucks, wondering if their jaws are compatible with Nova and the other look-alikes - Record Power/Sorby?

I know the older Record chucks were comparable with Nova and Sorby and would expect the newer ones are comparable. Record instructions for the older ones were to switch the #1 and #3 jaws. I think because of the time Nova were left tighten and Record was right tighten. Not sure it really made much difference. I did prefer the Record over the Nova as at the time their jaw slides were bigger and right tighten. Interesting in the AAW Membership email there is an advertisement for BMwood. I just bought their collet set and looking at their web page they also sell chucks and jaws that say they are compatible with Nova and Sorby. I don’t know anything about their chucks or price compare, but the collets appear to be good quality, but haven’t used them yet.

My thought is that if you own a company and have the excess capability to make much more equipment than you can sell the natural tendency would be to make equipment for other companies. And my thought is that if this gear looks very much like the equipment that company sells and there are no lawsuits against these companies products that closely resemble the original that that is kind of proof of what is going on. You know if it looks like a duck??????
