Thinking of selling my Jet 1442 which I have the Beall system mounted to. I have a Delta 46-460 and looking at it I think the headstock can be reversed by 180 degrees so that the Beall can be mounted outboard for larger bowls and no bedways to hit if the bowl gets loose.

Now the center pulley will be the only one to align but thinking that speed range will be sufficient. So is it feasible or is it just pipe dreams?

I much smaller footprint could be achieved if you just got a second hand motor and used it as a dedicated buffer. I do not think variable speed is that crucial. I have a single speed motor, runs at ~1700 rpm. An 8 inch wheel spinning at this speed is rather stiff. If I want slower speed, ie., a gentler buff, I use a 4 inch wheel at the same rpm.
