A University friend of my oldest son finally got married, he did move away after they finished, and my son then took on a different study at London Fanshawe collage, and did go to do work in Europe that was part of that study, anyway, suddenly there was the wedding invitation, too far away for us, so send him a $$$ gift they surely can use,
A thank you note with these 2 pictures of the Red Ash tree I made and gave to him as a go away present we received, quite large though I don't remember the exact size,
Noted that I has trouble with the hard/soft grain when burning the info in it.
Still looks like a nice bowl, maybe it was used as a center piece and did not get abused.

I’m sure it was nice to be reminded of a gift you gave over 20 years ago. Looks like the bowl was well-maintained. Thanks for sharing.
I had forgotten all about that bowl, but yes the pictures brought it all back, and glad he has used and appreciated that piece, brings a smile onto my face :), thanks Michael 1thumb.gif.

Great to see something you made live on and get used. One of the big motivators in doing what I do. Someday, many years after I'm gone, there will be a bowl on someone's table at Thanksgiving or a vase on their mantle full of flowers with my name burned into the bottom of it. Maybe someone will ask about it and the buyer (or person I gave it to as a gift) will remember and say they got it from some guy in TN that made stuff in his home shop from local trees. Heck, they might even remember my name.

Glad to see this, Leo... neat stuff

On the other end of the spectrum, I have always feared seeing one of my bowls at a local garage sale, pawn shop, or Goodwill with a $4.99 price tag!

I have no problem with that, I probably would buy the bowl, clean it up and find a new recipient for it, there are sometimes problems with peoples lives and finances, moving to other places, and the bowl might not do or fit in the new chapter of their lives.

I was at Sally Ann a couple years ago, (killing time) saw a Nice Peugeot pepper mill, looked unused, yes it followed me home ;-), (made my day).

My mother-in-law was a potter. A famous family story told that a bowl she gave her sister-in-law was years later seen in a third person’s home. Asked how she got it, was told it was bought at a yard sale. The resentment has lasted generations and story has been repeatedly told.
