If you have stayed at any I would like to hear about your experience. The closet one listed on this site is 13 miles out from the symposium site in Seffner Fla. The reason for an RV trip is we live in West Texas and this is a great opportunity to see some beautiful country. Any info or comments will be appreciated.

My default place to research campgrounds is RV Park Reviews
Although I also sometimes ask on RV Net

Good luck and enjoy. I took the RV to Portland when the National was there (also to Utah for their symposium)

If you have a chance try staying a few nights at Myakka river state park. Might be full but worth a look.

Circle B reserve in Lakeland is a super place to see birds, otters, gators, turtles, butterflies.
An hour drive from the symposium site.

There are lots of great places to walk, bike, and paddle near Tampa and many more within an hour or two.
Send me an email with your interests and I can suggest a few spots.

Thanks to both of you for replies

I wanted to get as close in to the symposium as possible. Monday after the symposium we will be heading back to West Texas.

Tony and I were camping this weekend at Lazy Days Campground in Tampa, and we took the time to visit the RV campsites. We wanted to make sure that they represented our community and local AAW chapters in a positive light.

Bay Bayou is absolutely lovely! The only drawback is it is off of Hillsborough Avenue closer to Oldsmar, Florida. It is quite a drive from there to downtown, about 45 minutes with traffic. I would keep it on the list.

Lazy Days Campground, is the closest RV park and the nicest and in a safe area with restaurants nearby.

Palm River is an absolute, horrific dump!!!! We would not recommend this place to our worst enemy!

Tampa RV is the same and the neighborhood is very poor and not a very safe area to stay in!

Lazy days is just off I4,

Arrive a couple days early and visit circle B reserve,
Nice wide walkways through restored marsh and along a lake.

Guaranteed to see herons, egrets, limpkins, ibis, wood storks, , ospreys, whistling ducks, sandhill cranes, alligators, soft shell turtles, sliders, turkey vultures, black vultures, zebra long wing butterflies, gallinules,
There are two active eagle nests we see Eagles every time we. Got but the end of June the babies will be fledged so they may be hard to find.
With a little luck and sharp eyes you might see otters, wild turkeys, deer, swallow tailed kites, pig frogs, bull frogs, humming birds, bluebirds....

Florida is so much more than Disney and interstates. I hope ou have an opportunity to see some of it.

We have the largest cattle ranch in the US and something like 6 of the top 10 in terms of cows produced per year.
A lot of them go to Texas ranches where they feed them for market.

have Fun,

How about the KOA in St. Petersberg? Have stayed at KOA's across the US and Canada.

Gary😎

There is a saying about KOA on RV forums, that KOA actually stands for Keep On Adding (fees). Some of their extra fees are, well, amazing. Pet fee, A/C fee (what you might want A/C in Flordia?), Sewer hook-up fee, power surcharge fee.

In general a destination KOA is going to have facilities for every possible member of the family, to keep them "entertained" (for an additional fee) all day.
A destination KOA would be on my list, if I was traveling with a family.

An over-night KOA (usually located right off a freeway, with no heavy tourist activities in the area) is going to be purty much like anyone else's campground, just maybe more expensive.

It used to be KOA (Corp) was fairly strict with franchise campgrounds for standards (clean, etc). Not so much any more, to the point were there are KOA's I would avoid at all costs.... Ashland Or springs right to mind.

Our neighbors have friends that use Lazy days and they said it was probably the best one close to tampa.
It is a 20 minute drive to convention center
on Friday add 45 minutes to the trip because I 4 can get slow.
Saturday and Sunday there is not usually traffic.
Do be careful. I4 seems to attract a lot of careless and reckless drivers.
