I just got a new WEN 14 20 and am less than content with the tailstocks motion. I'm planning to bore out the back end of the tailstock on my mill to insert a bronze bushing. I feel like it needs better support to allow the hand wheel to move more smoothly. The quill is very nicely fitted in the front but there is excess play at the handwheel. I'm also going to make a better knob system for the handwheel. My Jet mini has a very smooth tailstock as the fit is better between the casting and the handwheel shaft on the lead screw. Have any of you done something like this?
