Anyone using either the 1/32 or 1/64 ball tip from Razertip for fine detail pyro? I was thinking it might do better than what I have been using for things like fine detail and signing a piece. Might just get one to try it out anyway, but wonder if anyone has tried them.

Can't remember what mine is but it's really tiny. I have been using it on the bead work on my Angels.

Pat at PJL recommends (Optima woodburning systems) using a ball tip pen for writing and fine detail work. He said it glides over the wood better than other types of writing tips. I would recommend talking to him to get the best size for what you intend to do with it.

Mike, I have 4 different sizes of the ball tips including the 1/64 (.4mm) and have only used them for stippling like on John's angel decoration. Usually on fairly high heat (relative to the size of the tip) to obtain a burned texture. The 1/64" size could possibly work for fine detail lines (dotted), but I think if you tried to actually draw a line it would probably dig in and and be tough to drag for a line. That being said, I never really tried that but it might actually work at a lower heat level. Give it a try!

if you turn the power way down you can draw or write with that ball. I usually use a writing tip that I got from Optima. I sharpened it a little more than it comes from the factory.

I too recommend giving Pat at Optima a call. We used a little bigger ball tip Razertip pens for a few years before switching. Pat walked me through exactly what I wanted for signing small bowls. We are very pleased with the PH9MS, which I am guessing is around 1/32". The heat delivery is excellent, which I think may have been a bit of a problem with the Razertip because it didn't work as well for us in the softer woods I normally turn.
