A friend of our family is headed overseas to France and apparently will be staying in hostels and/or family homes. She advised that the custom is to present the host family with a gift. She has asked me to make several small bowls out of Utah Juniper. Can someone provide me some information or direction to research as to whether there might be a quarantine or restriction that would prevent me from fulfilling her request. Thanks.

Dale,

The quarantines are for "unprocessed" wood. Once you turn and finish it, that should take it out of restriction the same as furniture.

If you have specific questions regarding your local woods, contact your County extension agent or state Dept. of Agriculture. The US Forest Service will also inform you about any restrictions, especially export restrictions.
