Best price I can find shipped, taxed, etc. is on amazon Jet 1642 2hp, shipped to richmond ky for $2332, anyone done business with amazon on big tool, problems issues etc? Do you get jet extras, it doesn't mention it?

Bought my first lathe, first band saw and several other large tools from them for the same reason. They also have a better than eBay way of listing and selling anything you buy from them on their web site. Never had any problems with Amazon.

Jet 1642

We just bought one of these for our club, and you should be able to get one, with free shipping, for about $1850. You might also explore the possibility of going to the factory to pick one up - they ship out of La Vergne, TN. Don't forget to check Osolnik Machinery and Toolnut for pricing. Osolnik is not very far from you.

That said, I have bought other woodworking equipment from Amazon, and they have always delivered on their promises.

Just bought a Powermatic 3520b from Amazon and they were great. Shipping came and delivered to inside my garage. No taxes and free shipping. Exelent experience.

RE: Purchasing equipment from Amazon

Although I was very nervous at first, I decided to buy a Delta Unisaw from Amazon. It was delivered in excellent condition and very quickly. I live on a hill with an inclined driveway and the driver unloaded several pallets and placed them in my garage with a pallet jack. The price was competitive and I was completely satisfied with the purchase. I have since made several other tool purchases from them (although none were as large or heavy as the saw) and have never had an unpleasant experience.

Good luck with your decision.

I've purchased a number of tools from Amazon, including my Jet 1642 a couple of years ago. Amazon had the best price I could find, and no shipping charge. Although they say delivery is to the curbside, I gave the driver $10 and he hand trucked it into my basement (walkout/no stairs).

Although I had no problems with the lathe, if I've had problems with other items from Amazon, their return policy is hassle free. Go for it!!!

Woodworkers Supply made a loyal fan here when they happened to have a clearance price on the Jet lathe I'd previously found well priced on Amazon, then better priced elsewhere. On the lathe alone, that saved me $100 off the best deal I'd almost chosen. And that's not all.

They already had competitive prices on stuff like chucks and extra jaws, but offered to price match anything I'd found for less elsewhere (even sale prices)--as long as it was another Brick-and-Mortar based operation (i.e., not Amazon itself). Their shipping from NM (indoor, to my surprise upon arrival) was less than a FL company had quoted me for curbside.

Post-purchase, they even refunded a few bucks after I emailed them some additional references to a couple of better priced accessories from other B&M vendors. Regardless whether by phone, email, or web, every transaction was great. If a price quoted over the phone is higher than their web site, no problem. Just let 'em know and they'll give you the lower price.

When I need something, I still check several places for the best price, but for sellers beyond those offering club member deals and/or random sales, it's nice to know there's a reliable vendor who's thrilled to have your business and also willing to compete on any item every day. Not knocking Amazon, but I've made plenty of other purchases since then, and have always found better prices elsewhere. You just have to dig a little more.

Jet from Amazon Question

Paul, I purchased a Powermatic 3520 from Amazon. When it arrived it had tipped over in the truck and there were broken pieces in the crate. I declined the delivery and emailed Amazon. Within less than an hour I had a message from Amazon stating that a replacement had left the factory and would be here on a given date and it was. I couldn't ask for better service than that.

I also have a VicMark VL300 and seldom use it when I can use the Powermatic. The solid feel of the cast irom does make a difference to me.
