My Doctor says its time to look into protecting my lungs if I want to keep turning. Anyone using an AirMate, AirStream, or Airmaster 30 positive pressure respirator? I’d like to get your comments good and bad about any of these systems.

I’ve tried the Trend and the Triton and didn’t care for either of them.

Thanks,

Gerry

Most bang for the buck is to collect the dust at point of production. You do have a good dust collector? I use standard galvanized floor duct with magnets to attach front of the bed for outside sanding, rear for inside. Letting gravity and centrifugal force work for you do a lot. Rest is easily handled by distance and a nuisance mask at my house. Can't darken a kleenex after sanding walnut.

I use the 3M Airstream (AS-200) and like it very much. Very comfortable and I only get clean air. 😀

One thing to keep in mind, 3M packages and ships these units minus the battery charger, which is needed! The charger is about $150.00 Make sure exactly what you are getting for the price you are quoted.

Unless you already deal with a 3M distributor who can get one at a better price I think Airware America has a pretty good deal on these.

Thanks Guys!

Michael,
I have a dust collector that I use (pretty much the same way you do) that runs when I am sanding and an ambient air cleaner that runs all the time. Most of the turning that I’ve been doing lately is with spalted woods. I don’t want to take any chances since two of my older siblings have developed asthma.

Bill,
I think I have it narrowed down to the Airstream200 from Airware America.

Thanks Guys,

Gerry

Given those circumstances, and my own personal experience with spalted woods, whatever you get, make sure you can get a HEPA filter and replacements for it.
