An interesting thing about altitude. Temperatures at the grand canon rim are usually I the 80s in June.

The symposium is indoors. Rooms at the canyon are getting filled up.

If you plan on visiting the Grand Canyon and want to spend the night(s) before or after the symposium reserve a room soon.
We made reservations didn't get our first choice at the north rim. Got what we wanted on the south rim.
We can cancel without penalty up until day before...
 
And if you have visions of hiking into the canyon remember that the river is about same elevation and temperature as Phoenix. A helicopter ride out can be expensive.

Rooms should be available at Williams or Flagstaff if you want to wait to see the canyon.
