Check out the Health and Safety forum, Peke has been discussed in a couple threads.
I purchase the Peke CleanAire system for $750 a little over two years ago. I’m VERY happy with it.
For ~20yrs I seldomly wore a face mask, and similarly didn’t wear dust masks very often. I could usually tell you what wood I’d been turning based on the Kleenex after I blew my nose
After getting the Peke system I’ve become religious about wearing it if I’m turning. It’s light on the head, quiet, and I’m no longer taking my chances about flying objects. Oh yeah, I don’t need to blow my nose after turning; and if I do I couldn’t tell you what wood I’d been sanding.
My turning time is usually 2-6 hours in a day in the shop. I typically recharge the Peke battery every 2-4 times I use it, haven’t found charge time to be an issue at all. It has 5 flow rates I think, I always use the second lowest flow rate and that provides me adequate air flow.
I purchased an extra filter, a set of extra pre-filters, and some shield overlays. I’d recommend the first two, but not the overlays. The face shield is the standard Bionics and replacement shields are cheap enough to not bother with the hassle of bubbles in the overlay etc. I also blow out my filter and pre filter about every other time I’m charging the battery so I’ve only gone through a couple pre-filters and am still on the first HEPA filter after turning a few hundred bowls, platters and ornaments etc wearing the Peke (not recommending blowing these out or not, just telling you what I do).
As you can tell from my comments, I like the Peke CleanAire a lot and don’t even think about using it any more, I just do. It goes on right after I put my smock and Bose noise canceling earbuds on *every* time I turn. It’s not cheap, but your lungs will serve you much better if you can afford it.
