Ok I'm a man on a mission. I've decided that once and for all I'm going to own a decent to good Digital Camera. Any of you guys ever used or own the Nikon D50. I had one in my hands at the local camera shop the other day, has a pretty nice feel to it. I'm just looking to see if anyone has first hand experiance with it

I own a d70s

buy the nikon
d50,d70,d70s

they are all great.
its like shooting a real camera again.
makes the digital cameras of yesterday seem stone-age.
none of the delay. rapid fire (3 frames per second) if you like
auto focus or manual
high resolution
tons of lenses
film is dead.
get one today.

I own a D70 and it does everything I needed to do in the studio. A friend of mine owns a D50 and loves it...... he shoots a lot of concert photos. If you decide to go with the D50 or D70, consider buying the body only. The lens included in the package usually ends up being sold on eBay. I bought my body and a 28-105 zoom with macro capability for only a few dollars more than the package. This lens is much more versatile than the one in the kit... Especially if you're doing any close-up work.

I'm drooling over the Nikon D200. I have the older Canon Digital rebel. It's a decent camera but when your used to using Nikon D1's and D2's at work the Digital rebel feels pretty rinky dink. We also have a D70 and D100 at work and they are nice cameras that handle well and I assume the D50 is also.

Nikon digital cameras

I looked at both the D50 and D70s before settling on the D70s but my decision was guided more by trading in two Nikon N90s cameras at the time and also that I still owned other Nikon lenses that would fit on either of the two digital versions. I love my D70s and one of my main reasons is that it just feels like a real camera to me. I've been all Nikon all the time since I got my first photography job in 1961. If you go with the D50, I'd recommend looking at the 18-70mm zoom lens that is standard on the D70s. The D50 is equipped with a 18-55mm lens as standard.

I had Canon lens, and looked the the Rebel (300D), Rebel XT (350D) but went with the 20D... With the 30D now out it would take a serious look.

You do know the 10D/Rebel runs on MS-DOS, and there are hacks out for the Rebel that turn on several of the software features Canon turned off (compared to the 10D)

I'm looking at the D200 because I still have some old nikon equipment that will work with this camera, such as bellows extension tube, reverse adaptors, and long lenses. They won't work on the D50 or D70 or D100 and I can't afford the D1's or D2's.
