Has anyone any experience with the PSI version of the Wolverine grinding system? Cheaper? Yes. Is it worth the money or should I pay the extra money and go with the Wolverine? This is going to be a gift if that makes a difference in what your decision might be.

Hi Gary I have the Oneway system and I'm very happy with it.However I wasn't aware of the PSI system when I bought it, looks almost identical to the Oneway my quick math tells me you could buy a good chisel with the money you would save and with 30 days no ? return I think you almost have to give it a try.IMHO:cool2:

P.S. Can I be on your christmas list 😀

Gary,
I have the wolverine system. I find them everywhere I go. The AAW uses the Wolverine in all the demo rooms at the symposiums. Most woodturning schools use it too.

The PSI is obviously a Wolverine copy. If it is a good copy it may be a bargain.
don't eat the paint!

The locking mechanism is critical. Check it out!!!

If the vee arm ever slips the tool being sharpened can be pulled down over the face of the wheel. Serious hand injuries can occur.

The Wolverine is pretty simple device. As long as the locking device is well made the knock off may be okay.

happy Turning
Al

I've had the wolverine since the early 1990's........very satisfied.

.....no experience with anything else.....

I'd recommend the base unit (arm, 2 base clamps, and platform - $90) plus the Vari-grind jig ($55) - that comes to $20 more than the PSI. It's a very good quality system. Save the skew jig until later - or never.

I had the PSI system and it's a "clone" but not at the same quality. Within a year I upgraded to Wolverine. It's not much more money, but was surely worth it. A much better built system.
