My former boss is going to buy a Oneway 2436. He asked me where the best and least expensive place to get one would be. I don't know because I haven't kept up with Oneway lathe prices. Can you all answer this for me so I can pass it on to him.

John:

I bought a 2436 about 4 yrs ago and have nothing but good things to say about the lathe and oneway in general. Their price is fixed. The only saving is at a show you save the freight by hauling home with you. What i would recommend is to check who is the carrier is going to be and what equipment they have. (lift gate, pallet kacks etc.) Can they warehouse it until you can accept delivery. Will they deliver it to the door of your workshop. This lathe ships at around 900 lbs so planning is necessay. I Bought mine thru the local Woodcraft because they stored it until I was ready for delivery and had a local delivery outfit delivery it.
The put an extra guy on the truck at no charge to me and used to pallet jacks to pull it up my steep concrete driveway and put it inside my Garage. Quite a deal for $120.00. I say ONEWAY has one way of doing business ... there way.... which for the most part is fine.

I purchased my Oneway 2436 at the Pasadena show. It was used for demos for the three days and when the show was over - we just loaded it in my pickup truck. I purchased the wheel set for moving the lathe. I paid the normal price but saved on shipping and more. Actually saved quite a bit since I was going to drive to Pasadena anyway (about 500 mi.). The wheels are well worth the price if one is going to move the lathe around. I have lent my wheel set to a number of people who were purchasing a new Oneway and so they have gotten their use.

I am not aware of any discounts on the Lathe.

I suggest your Boss check with some of the companies that sell Oneway Lathes.

They might discount other items like a stronghold chuck or maybe give a bunch of coupons for future purchases.

Many years ago I paid full price for the oneway but got a stronghold for next to nothing.

Happy Turning
Al

Yup, preordering the lathe and picking it up after it was used as a demo at a show is the only discount out there that I'm aware of. The money saved on shipping is enough to buy a couple of toys to go with it too.
