Oneway lathe problem question

I own a Oneway 2436 lathe. 20+ years old.
Today, I used the lathe as I would normally. Turned something between centers and moved the chuck to the outboard end.
Went to turn the lathe on and it would not work. I had not hit the "Stop" button.
I tried the turn it all off thing and waited a minute. Turned it back on. Would not run.
I have tried all the things I know to try. Finally opened up the electrical box. The readout was flashing 57.40 - 57.80.
When I turned the power off again.......the read out blinked the number for a bit......then blinked "Uu". And the small alarm light blinked. Then all went off.
Tried all this a few times. Same results.
Sent an email to Oneway to ask them. But, I am pretty sure they were closed for the day.
Does anyone out there know what "Uu" means?
Thanks.
I bought this lathe new. And have had zero problems with it in the 20 years I have owned it. Love it.
Hugh

Try unplugging it for at least 2 min. and plug back in and try it, it might reset.
Mine goes off after I have it turning at 100 rpm for 20-30 min. and that is what I do to reset it.

Rusty,
Could be the problem. I am in California and we are in a heat wave right now. The State does not have enough energy to feed all the air conditioners.
When the reading on the box was saying 57.xx, I was wondering if we were below 60 cycles. Makes sense.

Bernie - I will try it tomorrow.

I will check the whole thing out tomorrow when it is cooler and we should have enough energy.

When turning Planet Mesquite I was at under 100-rpm for hours on end. At an extremely unbalanced 1200-lbs, never had a problem.
Kevin did tell me that I should NOT assist in the initial spin-up - it can confuse the controller. Never had a problem starting.
While I won't do the disservice of guessing, I would appreciate you sharing the solution with the forum. My advice is to contact Oneway - good chance you'll talk to Kevin Clay, Pres. engr and primary designer.
You'll find out why Oneway is worth the money.

A utility voltage or frequency sag can easily take a VFD down on start-up, the factory settings will need to be reviewed to verify
how much variance you can have for your incoming power. This is becoming more of a problem with utility power grids being
maxed out in the hot summer temperatures in many areas of the country. We are taking down one of our main power grids to
allow the local utility company to make repairs on one their high voltage capacitor banks next week.

OK - So, I get to the shop this morning after my walk. Try and start the lathe. The power is getting to the lathe. But, lathe will not run. I opened up the big electrical box and checked on the inverter. different numbers on the readout. Could not figure out what was happening. Googled the inverter. Too technical for me. I do not have an electrical engineering degree.
Finally got the nerve up to call Oneway.
Shawn/Sean......the "Tech" guy helped me. I told him my problem and symptoms. He gave me a couple of things to check. Said he thought maybe one of the switches was bad.
I went off to try what he suggested. Simple stuff actually. The problem was the off switch on the remote on/off box had gone bad. I bypassed it with a piece of wire and low and behold .....the lathe powered up properly. Called Oneway again and was told to order a couple of switches so I would have a spare. Did that. Less than $40 with shipping.
With a small piece of wire, I bypassed the switch and am able to use the lathe until I get the switch. Just can not use the remote on/off box.
Oneway does a terrific job. They are willing to talk to some person who does not talk tech......and then help them and solve the problem.
I have had this lathe for 20+ yrs. now. This is the first time I have had any problems. Terrific piece of machinery. I use the day lights out of mine.
Thanks for the help folks.

Bernie......I tried your unplugging for 2 minutes. But, the problem was not an inverter problem. Just the simple switch.
But, I like your thought. I have done that in the past a couple of times and it has solved problems.

The folks at Oneway are great. I don't have one of their lathes but have bought several accessories from them and got excellent personalized service. Kevin picked up the phone once and checked a dimension on the banjo I ordered, another time I talked directly to the machinist who milled a custom thread on a faceplate. I'm glad you got your problem sorted, but I am not at all surprised.

Hugh, I also have a Oneway 2436--for over 26 years--and can't say enough about their customer service, or the lathe. Same problem as you had with the remote switch, and also simply resolved by talking with their tech staff. Another time, I wasn't thinking and pushed the tail stock back too hard, and it fell to the floor breaking the hand wheel. After talking with Kevin about my carelessness, he just sent me a new wheel--no charge for it or shipping. I missed not seeing them in Chattanooga.

Whenever I have a switch that appears to be not functioning I spray electrical contact cleaner into it. Sometimes it has to be sprayed from different angles, etc to make sure it gets on the contacts. Flipping the switch on-off while spraying helps.

The switches on old Delta equipment seem to be especially problematic because they aren't dust sealed.

I've forgotten the brand name of the contact cleaner. Amazon sells some I'm sure.

In the past, the remote on/off switch would not function. Found that a good blast of compressed air would clean it out and off we go.
Now I have a spare switch.

I replace my switches when they stop working well. Most are plastic junk that aren't made for keeping dust out. Simple light switches (wall toggle) are very dependable when you think about it. Your garage, bathroom, etc. gets used all the time and rarely do they fail. If they do, any hardware/lumber store has replacements for about a buck.
