First,I would like to comment on the friendliness of this site.As a rule,I dont join many forums but I really feel at home here so I think I'll stay for awhile, heheh.
I'm very new to turning and like an idiot I purchased a Delta 46-140 because I got a good deal on it.Now I find that the spindle size is 7/8-14tpi? and I can't find faceplates or chucks in this size.Is there a place where I can purchase an adapter so I can go to 1-8tpi? and is that a good idea? or should I continue looking for 7/8-14tpi accessories?
Thank You
Tom

Tom,

You are correct in your note of 7/8x14 on the inboard thread, and it's very unlikely that you'll find an adapter to get you to a "stock" size. Simple solution is to trot down to a friendly local machine shop, play dumb, and see if the guy will cut you one to get up to 1x8. Make sure, however, that he cuts the female side deep enough and relieves some threads at the mouth so the adapter will bottom on the spindle shoulder without jamming on the spindle threads. I had an extender made for my old lathe, and cost me all of about $25 because I wasn't impatient, and acted like the guy was doing me a favor, which, of course, he was.
