I know books are very helpful, but what I am in need of is some sort of online videos or demonstrations of wood turning. I am very intereted, and have a mini lathe that I wanted to start using sometime to create small projects, like pens, flutes, etc. Does anyone know of a website that has some free videso I can watch??? I've been reading a lot of the posts on here and viewing the links with no luck to an actual video that wasn't for sale.

DC I can't help you with the free videos other than to recommend that you find a turning club nearby. Let us know where you live and we will make a recommendation. Many clubs have CD's and Videos that you can check out or rent cheap. They also have demonstrations at many club meetings so you can see how it's done. Our club has a hands on meeting once or twice a year so that new people can actually work on the lathe with a mentor standing by to help.

Yeah, I did a search for local chapters with no luck in my area. I live in Houston, TX. I find it hard to believe the 3rd largest city in this country doesn't have hands on workshops, but I've been looking for only a short time so far, I might have to check the leisure learning catalogs, etc. 🙁

Hi, DJ.

Last I checked, I think they're 14 chapters of AAW in Texas. I'm figuring one is probably within range of ya. Look it up on the chapters list of the main page (click on the logo in the upper left of your screen), give the closest a call or email, and start showing up. Noone expects you to join immediately if you don't want to, and you're just about guaranteed offers of mentoring if you ask. Also, most clubs have quite the video library that you can check out if you're a member (usually around a hefty $20 a year or so).

Welcome to the Vortex,
Dietrich
