I have long been of the opinion we should better meet the needs of the Newbie Turner. That is the inexperienced to intermediate turner. When asked for suggestions for the "Special Interest night" I asked if we could have a round table to answer questions from Newbies. Well after 22 years in the Air Force I should know that to suggest is to volunteer! I now have the room so the next logical step is to ask for some experienced turners to join the round table. There are a number of people who regularly answer newbie questions on this forum as well as others I frequent and it would only take five or six of you to man the round table. Let me know if you would be interested in contributing on Friday night.
The next obvious question is whether there is enough interest to warrant such an event? I would appreciate input on both questions please!

I think that is a wonderful idea and I would volunteer but I won't be able to attend this year so I guess that doesn't help out. Hope you are successful in this.

round table help

I can't say I'm not disseminated John. I have long appreciated the sound, patient advice you offer to the less experienced. There are several others here and at some of the other sites we both visit that I hope will volunteer.
I'm going to pass through TN in Sept. I just might look you up!!

I posted this under the new forum heading, Newbie but thought I might have better response getting experienced turners if I re posted here. I'm looking for some help filling out the round table.

Panel members

For John and Steve. Are you still interested in helping for this round table? We have a room and now need panel members. Al Hockenbery and I are committed but a name like John Jordan would surely help attendance.

Bob, I would like to thank you, and everyone else hosting this particular meeting, for looking out for us new or intermediate turners. Looking forward to seeing you their.

Bob,

I'm on if there's not something that *must* take precedence. There are some gallery things going on. I'll check when I get home this weekend and see if I can be firm on it-I'm out of town now.

What's it all about! (long)

Let me try to give some background on how this came about and how I hope it will work.
When Al Hockenbury asked for suggestions for the Special interest night on Friday I suggested a forum for new turners. Well after 22 years in the Military I should have known that to suggest is to volunteer! I have been turning for over thirty years but am by no means a professional, although I have been demonstrating around the south west for several years. It is my opinion that the more people involved on both sides of the table in this venture the greater the discussion and the more ideas and opinions will be put out there. So far several people have volunteered to offer their experience to the discussion.
Al Hockenbury, Vince Welch, and Mike Hunter for a start. Steve Worchester and John Jordan have offered to assist if they have no other commitment. I hope there will be others. For those of you that have not attended a Special Interest Night, this is not a demonstration but a casual discussion of ideas and experiences. However we do have a room with a lathe and I assume will be able to demonstrate an idea or a technique. If you have a project, a tool or an idea you would like to get some input on this is the place. And remember we are all “newbies in that none of us know it all. Well maybe most of us don’t know it all!! See you on the night.
