Just a reminder that there is now a "newbie" forum. Great place to ask beginner questions, and for others to help answer them. Even a not-so-newbie might learn something there.

It's always good to put in a direct link for us lazy folks, just so that we don't have to go looking for it.
Newbie

Technically we are all Newbie's of some sort. I could classify myself as a newbie on piercing. I've done a little but I certainly wouldn't call my self an expert. Same is true for carving if you place me next to a real honest carver. Same would be true for Windsor chair builder. I've built 2 which classifies me as somewhat knowledgeable about the process still very much a newbie. I could go on and on.

Absolutely, I doubt I'm alone in the "gee that looks interesting...gotta try that." Then move on to the next "gee." Making one a life long newbie.

Quite right. That's kinda what I meant by not-so-newbies could learn something too. Bet I fit in as many (or more) of those newbie categories as you guys.

Even though I have been turning for about 25yrs, I've got to admit that I've learned a "thing or two" from those who post to this forum.

Still......this forum is my only source of interaction with other turners outside of "my little private world" I've created for myself out in my garage!.....If you can imagine that. 😱

Yes, friends......I guess I'm a genuine recluse!.....but, you've helped me to change that!

ooc

While I'm thinking of this, I think I have a "newbie" question to ask over there.....stand by, matey! 😉

Odie,
Am similarly somewhat of a hermit, although less so since moving here a couple years ago. I had turned for some years before I ever met another turner, and have learned most of what I know about turning from the good folks on this and other forums.
