Today (January 20th, 2012) the first e-mail installment of Woodturning Fundamentals was sent from AAW Headquarters in St. Paul to well over 1,000 AAW members that have signed up to receive this bi-monthly update including a range of woodturning information that is focused particularly on assisting AAW members with learning the basic turning methods and other fundamental procedures used in woodturning. The 'newsletter-like' e-mail messages will contain hints, tips, explanations of basic woodturning techniques, instructional on-line videos, and answers to member-submitted questions. The Woodturning Fundamentals message will be sent six times per year to those AAW members that subscribe for the free distribution by e-mail, which will alternate with the publication of our Association's journal, American Woodturner. Thus, you will receive something from the AAW EVERY MONTH if you elect to sign up for the Woodturning Fundamentals messages!!

To subscribe to receive the Woodturning Fundamentals message every-other-month, CLICK HERE and after reading more about the program, follow the link to subscribe. You will need to enter your name, your AAW membership number, and the e-mail address where you would like the message sent.

Feel free to send comments, suggestions, or ask questions - this new program is meant to be member-centered and hopefully will help newcomers and established turners to learn or teach woodturning skills better through the sharing of experiences with fellow woodturners.

Please feel free to contact any of us on the Woodturning Fundamentals Committee!

So once we subscribe will we get the first newsletter also? Just curious as I'm sure others may be also.

Excellent question Brian!

I do recall that there was something mentioned during our telephonic committee meeting about the possibility of putting-up a link to the previously sent messages in the Member's Area of the AAW web site, however I don't know if it was finally decided to do this, or if and when the page for each mailing can be set up following each "issue" sent out. I don't think anything formal is in place at the moment for those members who subscribe after the first issue was sent to automatically receive the mailing.

I will contact Linda Ferber and ask how people wanting to receive the first (or "back issues") can receive them - I think the web page solution obviously would ultimately be the best archive for these messages.

It also would be possible for a member who received the message to forward the Woodturning Fundamentals message content to other interested people via e-mail. I tried it this morning to a person asking about getting the 'first issue' - I haven't heard back yet whether he received the message from me OK to see if forwarding the message preserved all of the formatting and active hot links.

We may need to wait until Monday to see whether we'll create a web-accessible archive for all mailed messages and their included content and links. I'll post any updates about getting the first issue.

I hope that interested people are subscribing via the AAW's Woodturning Fundamentals web page. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Have a great weekend!

Rob

I received the first edition from another turner from our local Chapter, and also just signed up. Lots of good information and tips, Thanks for doing this!

Fundamentals

I've signed up too.

Then I sent the link off to our club so they could enjoy it too.

We are planning to send the first issue out to all AAW members next week. We are also working on archiving the emails. Please send in questions - this will be a lot of fun. Linda Ferber AAW Program Director

Rob,
