My woodturning club has 2 of the original SuperNova chucks (the ones with the pivoting handle). The handles (chuck keys) are nowhere to be found after a move to a new facility.

Does anyone either have one that they will part with or know where I can get at least one? I have tried the nova web site, left a message on the Service Center desk, checked ebay but no luck.

It does not appear that any oher chuck key will fit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I ordered a new one from Nova when they had Tim Giess working for them here in the states. I would try calling them in Fla.I've heard their hard to get sometimes but keep trying.

I don't think there are any left for sale in the USA and the last one was sold in New Zealand about 2 months ago. Your best chance is someone with several chucks giving you one .

This situation kind of suggests that someone with metalworking facilities could rescue Supernova chuck owners by machining a new geared key - might not be particularly inexpensive, but probably cheaper than buying a new chuck...(?). Perhaps only the gear-end could be milled and adapted to a common handle?

I can see where it would not be in Teknatool's interest to make more replacement keys since they want to sell more chucks, but it does seem kind of crappy that they won't support owners of their original SuperNova chucks by making new replacement keys.

I hope you find a solution to this problem - I don't own any Novas, and tried a Oneway Stronghold for a while, but sold it because I didn't like using a geared key. I now have 5 Vicmarc chucks; all use standard metric hex keys. If your club is considering replacing the two SuperNovas if you can't find or make a new handle, you may want to re-think buying into the proprietary geared-key design in selecting what kinds of chucks you use.

As Rob has said you can make a new head but if you do remember the handle need's to pivot for clearance when turning some things.
