Hi fellow turners,

I will be a vendor at a large summer craft show and dog event, and need ideas for turning projects related to dogs...sheparding dogs are the main focus here. I have lots of ideas for fiber related tools, but dogs....seems to have me stumped this morning...or could be I am just not getting enough oxygen at this altitude (8500') 😱 to think clearly.

The simplest I have come up with so far is a dumbell shaped throw toy, but that really is not very unique.

I know that woodturners are ingenious by nature, so what can you think of ?

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks Charlie...duh, a custom dog dish...its so obvious. A custom handle for leashes...another good idea....ok I think the rusty wheels in my mind are beginning to turn.

You could make dumbbell retrieval toys.
They are used for obedience and scent training.
There are different sizes for different sized dogs.

Mark.

not sure if you have a big enough swing, but dogs sure do like having their own bed with cushion, can you do large platters

when company comes the dog shows off his "place" to the company

Turn some hoops suspended between turned poles with turned bases which can be used for an obsacle course during the dog show. Just an idea.

If you want to think of the owners, too, you could turn pens with dog pics in them. I've done them with an owner's dog pic printed on a label, stuck to a blank turned small, then cast and turn final. The owners love 'em.
