sounds like a keeper to me as long as she dosen't get as bad as my wife. When I was putting on new cabinet doors in the kitchen she had the vacuum cleaner under my feet to pick up the dust from drilling the hinge screw holes before they hit the floor. When we took down the old cabinets we had to sent her to wally world.
Once I was replacing some pieces of siding on the house and an hour after I started she came out with a paint brush and wanted to know if I was done yet.

It's great that your wifes help you clean, and want to help you paint... but I've gotta say, my wife is the absolute best. She encourages me to buy new tools!

Does your wife like to travel? New Orleans needs a little cleaning right about now.
My two granddaughters enjoy using the vac in Big Guy's shop. I just have to watch that they don't suck up the tool tray, fastener's bins or finale's I've got stored in shavings. But they do a really good job otherwise

OK, why don't we just make the next contest about who has the best wife. I'd win that one hands down. My wife is one of the most talented and creative people I know. We often collaborate on projects and she has impeccable taste in design. I can't tell you how fortunate I am to have a partner who understands the creative process and all that motivates this turner.

My wife makes up the bed while I'm still sleeping in it. I always have to do things two and three times when working around the house because she cleans everything up everytime I stop for a minute and I have to go get it out again
In the wife category mine is my best friend, critic, supporter, and seems to never mind how time or money I spend in the shop. Help me clean? You must be kidding! However, my oldest daughter (21) will come out and clean when she wants to talk. If I'm turning and she comes out, picks up a bench brush or broom, it means I need to stop turning and talk. Been that way for years, sort of our special father/daughter place. After her boyfriend of several years died last summer I worried about my tools rusting from all the tears, but it was worth it to have that special place to talk while she cleaned. I guess in the long run the expense of the shop is still less than a therapist?
Lots of good stuff happens in the woodshop. It can be a cathartic experience.
George - that is one nice looking house, with local siding and a great helper as well! That must be a fun project (even though it isn't round). :cool2:

There just aint enough space and I can't spell that many words right. 5 1/2 yr. in a 18' camper while I built the palace, the bathroom was in the house that made for some cold trips in the middle of some cold N.E. nights. Not to mention that real chilly toilet seat, or very stimulated body getting out of the shower, we just finnaly got central heat 2 months ago. clean up after me heck she is a wonderfull tailman ,toolbelt ,third hand & Two designers are always better than one. She has helped side the building ,pull wire , bend & hang coil stock on trim . Always willing to do those dreded part runs ,If I need a new tool she does her best to make sure I get it quick. Being divorced 2 previously I got the ANGEL of angels . I got hurt and became dissabled right after we started rebuilding the palace and going through workers comp & Social security ,turning the bussiness over to her . I really was so lucky she rode out the storm . I'll by her jewelery almost done with the house I can't wait for a real vacation but no camping 5 star all the way . I really do not know how I got so lucky ,I am a Gifted man.

We just spent a week together at Arrowmont where I took my first woodturning class and she took silk screening. She has been extreemly encouraging and we are looking forward to doing mixed media projects together. The classes were great and we both learned a bunch. I would recommend this type of vacation to any couple who share a creative spirit.

Ahh, George, fall in northern WI. What could be more beautiful. I've got a great helper too, cleans the shop every night. Well, sweeps up the shavings. I get north in the summers, hope to stop in and see you. Maybe I'll bring you some carrot wood.

The siding is white pine, 110 gallons of Sikkens stain. We have been working on it for a while. As soon as I finish tiling the master bath I have 4,000bf of cherry for paneling and moldings. I will be busy for a while! One last photo, the attachment shows the setting on the lake which is quite peaceful.

It has got to be true from these stories and my own experiences. Our hobby is expensive compared to many others, dirtier compared to many others, somewhat dangerous compared to some other hobbies. I have run up the VISA, had her underwear inbedded with wood chips coming out of the clothes dryer and she has haul me off to the ER and orthopedic surgeon, yet she still thinks each piece I make is better than the last.
There is a slight rusty ring on the bed of my lathe at the very end past where the tail stock usually sits. It was made by my wife's wine glass, my nieghbors or my Dad's beer can. I spend about 60 hours a month at the lathe and I bet 20 of those hours, one of those three are sitting on a wooden box at the end of the machine watching and visiting, while their beverage sits on the end of the machine. What a hobby that both the act of and the result of can amaze so many people.

On a comparative note, astronomy can be a very expensive hobby. I know of a few guys who have spent $15k-$20k, and there are people I know of who have spent in excess of $40k. Unfortunately there are usually not any concrete results, except for photos. The good thing about other hobbies (like astronomy) is that there are generally no messy side effects brought back into the house like dust or shavings.

One of the hams I used to spend time with had a "situation" with his XYL (DW to the others here). She resented the time he spent in the shack (thus not with her). He finially told her he was going to have some hobby, she had a choice, she could have him do his ham radio (at home), or out at the bars (ie what he was doing when he met her).
Her choice was ham radio.
