Here is my first bowl. I have a long way to go, but it is nice to see something come off the lathe (other than shavings and dust! 😛 )

The bowl is 4 inches across and 1 3/4 inches high. I'm not very good at taking pictures!

I used a wax for a finish.

Thanks for looking!

Hey Dudley!!

Nice job. I wish my first one looked as good. Fact is, some of the recent ones should look as good 😉 .

Looks a bit deeper than an inch and 3/4 though. Be sure to keep it as a measure against future improvements or, if you do give it away, be sure you will always have access to it for that measure.

Enjoy!!!

Impressive bowl... very nice job! Keep up the work!

AMEN!

When we were packing up mom's house, we came across one remarkably similar to the one you show there. Had felt on the bottom to cover up the screw holes, though. Think the deal was to fill them with dowels in those days, then cover with felt.

It's been a while since I turned that, and though I don't bring it out to show company, I'm still proud of it.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I can't believe how much I enjoy turning. Although this bowl may be a little rough--I had a lot of fun turning it--even the jam chuck to finish the bottom!! 😀

Excellant accomplishment!!!

On the next bowl lets see if you can make the base about 1/3 the diameter of the top.
