The new tractor lathe is working out better than expected. Here's a picture of a piece I finally managed to finish today. I'm rolling it out back to a shady area so I can start to spray on a finish.

What an unbelievable shadow on that thing...

Only on April Fools Day would you get a shadow that small on something that large.

It is pretty though.

For a few seconds there, you had me going!!!!!

I have a cousin who recently told me he was building a 40" lathe......so, I guess I can believe that somewhere, someone will try to turn something bigger than anyone else has ever turned!

Good one, and happy April Fool's........

Malcolm,

The first time I saw that pic I kind of got a kick out of the fact that he had his faceshield pushed up. I was waiting for someone to say how unsafe it was to turn without the shield in the proper position, 🙂 The rim speed must have been unbelievable, even at low rpm's

Best wishes,
Dave

Dave, I believe he has his face shield up so he can better see the "detail" of the cut. 😀😀

Ed, Thanks for the grin. 🙂

Hey Ed, I imagine your turning muscle is awfully sore after this one, eh? 😀

Ken - I've been on an intesive and incredibly successful program to develop my turning muscle for the last couple of years. If there was a bodybuilding competition that focused just on turning muscles, I'd be a real contender. I've also added a signficant amount of bioliptopadding on top of the muscle. It's very effective at protecting the muscle so no soreness here.
