Move threads???

Hi Norm,

I was just thinking about the same thing the other day. But I think they remain there for the new visitors to the forum. The four that are at the top give some good info that new visitors may miss otherwise.

I would hate for them to miss out on a chance to win new lathe by becoming a member of the AAW. 🙂

There also use to be a ton of questions on how to post pics. I am sure the Mod dudes put this one at the top to make their lives easier. 🙂 I know they answered it a lot in the beginning.

Happy Holidays,
Dave

???

Well Guys, I just think that there are other places on the site where this information could and should be posted. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that this forum is for members to ask and answer questions of one another. I find it annoying looking at the same stuff every time that I log on. I am not trying to anything other than suggest that this site could be improved with the removal of thos threads. I hope that I havent offended anybody. I am a proud member of this Association.

You haven't offended anyone.

Currently there is no place to put the threads, but I will suggest we put in an FAQ subforrum or soething like that.
Traditionally, new users don't search, either they don't know how or they don't bother. So I make those threads sticky. It is an annoyance for me as well, but it puts that info on the fist page they look at. I think if we ever go enough new info where the new threads took over more than the first page, it would be a bigger annoyance,.

threads

If those threads ofend someone then how about making an icon at the top of the fourm page for how to post pictures. Some where that people will see it.
But don't do it for me. I likeum where they are.
Duane

As long as the info is current leave them stuck. New viewers need the info and don't look for it as they don't know it exists. It is not that tough scroling down 2 inches.

Lets put an end to this thread as it is going nowhere. I just thought that removing those items would improve things. I think that there is a bigger picture here. I guess that I spent too many years in business marketing products to find this practise acceptable.
Norm

Hi Norm. I think your marketing experience is showing. I'm sure that space is prime space for advertising or whatever but, you know, when I log on I automatically look down at the forth thread (it's the first one highlighted). I haven't even noticed they were still there until you mentioned it.

This forum is for you guys!

I'm kinda getting tired of looking at them too. 3 of the 4 items were news items from the AAW. Those same items were also on the homepage. Maybe we can have a general policy of leaving them up there for 1 month, then pulling them off the sticky list. What do you guys think of this idea?

The 2 remaining news items are getting "unstuck" now.

Duane's suggested putting up a help link of some type...and removing the sticky item on "how to post photos". (Lemme see how that could be done, these are PHP pages which are dynamically generated so it's not as trivial as just adding a simple html link).

Steve suggested creating a FAQ subforum (similar to the want-ads). What do you guys think of that idea?

The photo info is important. We get a lot of people asking that question. Another popular question is how to register. The photo thread item has saved me a lot of time since I don't have to answer each question individually (Steve and I are volunteers). I still get "how do I register" about every 2 weeks - and there is a standard email that I send them.
