Mini lathes

I just purchased the new Rikon 12 inch, 1 hp mini lathe from Woodcraft. I took it home, and found that the variable speed won't work. My friend and I bought them together. His wouldn't work either. He took his back,they gave him a new one, took it home broke again. We called, they are going to send back their whole stock of Rikons for they have had returns already.
They are giving us a Jet( 1241) for $100 more than we paid for the Rikon so it was still a good deal.
My opinion- do not buy a mini Rikon until they get the bugs out of it. Gary

Rikon mini

Hi Gary. Guess it is just a bad batch. I have had one for several years without any issue other than it is a pretty cheaply put together lathe. I hardly use it but find it very helpful when my big lathe is tied up. Sounds like a good upgrade they offered you guys!
