I came by a large (14") Mimosa tree, thanks to my next-door pal. I promptly cut it into 1/2 logs and waxed the end-grain. Am in the middle of turning a cross-grain bowl (wood kinda smells, but not too bad) and would like to know if anybody has used this wood, and what are some things to be aware of? Also, what finish? Would like to stay with food-safe. Wood looks to be a very dark and light contrast.....😎

😉Yup....found the same info...am turning green start to finish, so am not experiencing dust problems. I still wear mask. So far turns very nice, am seeing little warping and no checking as I go...

Nice turning wood with no obvious problems, can make attractive pieces. Finish depends upon intended use. Current belief is that all modern finishes may be considered food safe once fully cured. Fully cured may take a matter of days or weeks.

Ron...will do asap....at present I am doing battle trying to get the upper hand with my copy of the "easy-to-use" Windows 7 system. GGRRR!!!! Am about to strap a case of DuPont or Hercules to it and stand off at 1120 paces with the trusty ole thuty-thuty..........wanna watch???😀😀

Mimosa BOOM!

Ray...since I am short and stumpy, you may want to reconfigure the steps at 2.5 feet. (And I shoot with open sights!!!)😀😀 By the way...to Bill that sent the pix of the Mimosa pens...thanks.
