Today it's raining and not good for riding. I normally ride the Harley to our local veterans memorial, decked out in my best riding gear.......Harley polished up and glittering in the sunlight.

I'll make that trip in the car today.

It is a time of somber remembrance of those whom I knew that didn't come home to community, loved ones, family, friends.....and also to those I didn't know.....today, yesterday, and back to the founding of our country. For me, it is personal, in a way that some will relate to, while others will give remembrance in their own way of honoring our fallen defenders of what we believe in, as a nation, as a people. Our Constitution allows us to take what is good, recognize it, and make it better for all of us. We, the people, are in control of our destiny.......and, if we ever neglect that responsibility, others will do it for us.

May God bless these men and women, our country, and the principles we believe in, and live by..........

Very well said. Theres allot of folks who do forget I do my best to remember. 20 years Air Force and 2 Wars. To the Fallen and Missing May GOD Bless.

Well said Odie. I remember every year those that went with me but didn't come home with me. Thanks to all who have served and to those who have given all for our freedom.

Thanks Jim and Harry....... (edit:.....and, Bernie!)

I got back a few hours ago. I don't need an invitation to visit the memorial, and just go when I get ready to go. I make it a point to visit the memorial every Memorial Day, and usually there are only one or two people there.....sometimes none. Just so happens I walked in on a ceremony being performed by various groups......VFW, AL, Civil Air Patrol, Legion Women's Auxiliary, and a few others. Several hundred people, I'd estimate.

You know......It really felt good to be among people who are patriotic, believe in our country, and the founding principles we hold dear. Not only did it make me feel good.......it made me proud of these people. Some of these Americans understand how vulnerable we are to losing what is good and right.......You're right, Harry.......some people have forgotten what a great thing those who preceded us have preserved for us.....with blood, sweat, and tears. I hope they never find out what the alternatives can be like in this world.........
