I've turned a couple of pieces a long time ago. Soft and spongy-you've got way better wood than that down there. ๐Ÿ™‚

John

I'll have to say that after reading the subject of the thread and who the first person to reply is, I was fully expecting to read the now well-established adage:

"Life's too short to turn crappy wood."

(.....and I literally bought the T-shirt which states this!)

Tim - I agree with John....... might work out OK in some cases, but it being so soft, etc. and not overly pretty, you'd likely be better-off spending your turning time and efforts on more attractive woods.

Ok

Thanks I will let it go to the shredder. Just found out they are taking down 30 Mahogany trees down in a local HOA. I'll wait for the wood. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

PS Hope you are enjoying you Lights Rob๐Ÿ˜€

I've turned it here in Ormond Beach, just above Daytona, and it turns nicely. Look at my album for Still Groovy...turned green and then nuked, warped beautifully.

Yes I am!

Tim asked:

PS Hope you are enjoying you Lights Rob๐Ÿ˜€

Yes I am Tim! Two of the three you sent are already in service with a magnetic mount that I can move from lathe to lathe for when I am doing hollowing! The third awaits mounting to my new "main" grinder station, but I need to I install the new Wolverine jig first.

As it turns out, my earlier Ikea inquiry to my sister-in-law (before you offered to get them) about these LED lights resulted in a surprise Christmas gift of two more Jansjo lamps! One will probably be fitted to the drill press, and the future location of the other, I don't know. (I suppose I need a "bright idea" for this one!)

Thanks again Tim!
