Measurements needed on Mini Jet

I will be recieveing my 1014 Mini Jet Lathe in a few weeKs and would like to know the dimisions of the mounting holes on the bottom so I can go ahead and get my bench built. I would appreciate it if some one could provide me with these measurements. I wont be drilling the holes but I at least need to make sure I don't stick a brace under where I need to put a bolt through.

Also I dont want to have to wait to turn something once I recieve it.

I just mounted one two days ago. The long distance was 23 7/8 and the short was 6 1/2. Consider using 1/4 inch threaded inserts so that you can attach/reattach the lathe easily. When buying the hexhead bolts, be aware that the length needed at the headstock end is more than the length needed at the tailstock end by about 1/8 inch.

I hope that you enjoy this nice little lathe.

I am a little concerned with it. Before I found this site, I ordered the variable speed model as the first time I turned was on a lathe which was variable speed. I liked being able to control the speed like that. Now I have read in the old forum that there might be a power problem.

I own the VS model and have little issue with the power. I use the little Jet a lot more than the larger more powerful lathe. I run the lathe set with the belt at the highest speed setting and then adjust within that speed range with the knob. I have yet to have a problem with not enough horse power.

Woodscrapper,

It's a fine machine. It's just not as powerful as the non-VS version especially at lower speeds. It's quite noticeable. At first I thought it was just the couple of machines I used (when the VS versions first came out) I was using when doing demo's at various places. But after the 5th one acting the same way, and hearing others experiences with it too, it's just a condition of the VS of the machine in general. I first noticed something different when I was hand sanding a bowl at a demo and I stopped the motor. Had to hit the reset. I'm no muscle-man either.

You may never notice it though. It's still a fine machine and you're going to have too much fun ... and far too much frustration, inspiration, catches, subtle curves, messed up finishes, tools, tools, tools ....... than one person should lawfully have in one lifetime. Buckle up!

Man, you don't know what you're getting yourself into. :cool2:
