I know it is quite new on the market, but has anyone used or heard any reports about this "Center Saver" for small lathes? My concern is, does the small lathe have enough power for this type of operation?

I have one coming. I talked to Kel extensively about this. I felt he needed a coring system for the 12 inch lathes that don't have big motors, or the banjos sat too high for his standard system. The mini set have a 1/4 inch wide cutter, don't know about the micro yet. Will post about it when I get it, and try it out. I do need to get a mini lathe to try it on. My Robust wouldn't be a fair test.

😉 Emailed Kel awhile back about a system for mini and mid lathes. He said a smaller version was being released shortly. Just ordered one. It's good for smaller lathes with 5/8 post and 1/2 hp. My 1220 is 3/4 hp and should be enough and if using the fishing method of cutting it shouldn't have any strain.
The blades are thinner at 1/8 compared to the 1/4 of the standard system.
I'm looking forward to trying it out!🙄

Hello,
I am looking forward to buying one, but I will wait awhile till they have the new post design. I met Greg Jensen at the Utah Symposium and he showed me the micro set, looked great. But he had a prototype, the post design on the ones only accept the mini and micro blades. What he had was a 1" diameter post and five pins to accept all the coring blades Mcnaughton makes. I called him because I want to use it on a big lathe to make nested bowl sets. He said it is also available with 1' post, and if I could not get it from other suppliers I could get them from him.

🙂Recieved the MMCS right before Halloween. Tried it out the next day on Halloween. Worked like a charm. Just got to get used to the plunging the gouge to the right angle. My Jet 1220 had ample power and did not bog down. Went really easy plunging. Only set back is reducing the speed. Stop and change belt tension, other than that, Great system. The 1/8 thickness of the gouge was stable to do the cutting. Will post pictures later.🙄
