Maybe a new lathe

As in Morris Garages? Which model? None, as far as I know, would ever qualify as a clunker, even the old A with the DOHC mill. Got 24mpg.

As to the lathe, it's a Powermatic 90 knockoff. They made one with stilts on the head and tailstock back when. I find it strange that Grizzly doesn't mention the outboard thread size on a machine with a very usable outboard turning setup. At $3400, I'd be inclined to go with a PM 3520 over this $2600 question mark.

I've had bad luck with Grizzly castings and overall QC, but they've been willing to replace and replace.

The spindle is solid same size on both ends but has no through hole so no vacuum or knockout rod. I just got a lathe and looked very hard at the options Toolnut.com was running a summer special bringing the 32520B under $3000 I don't know if it's still going or not but for a few hundred $ I feel the PM is a much better investment.

P.S. In all fareness Bill Grumbine has a vacuum system that will work with a solid spindle

I don't like the gap bed and the cantelever tool rest is a joke, you'll get way too much vibration and probably break it on the first catch. I like the outboard tool rest but in my book it doesn't tell what the spindle size is for the outboard threads.
