Aloha Kākou (Hello everyone),

We are excited to announce the start of a logo contest for the Maui Woodturners Association [MWTA].

The Maui, Hawaii chapter of the AAW formed just a year ago. We now have 26 members; with more joining all the time. Having just filed for our 501C3 status, we are arranging with a local Arts Guild and a High School to provide Beginner's workshops. We are happy to host visiting wood turners from the Mainland and overseas to give them a taste of woodturning in paradise.

We would like for you to help design our local chapter logo which we can all display proudly on our turning jackets, t-shirts, and use on our social media pages and communications. We plan to use the logo on t-shirts and may have a patch or other promotional material made using the logo. Thus, simpler might be better; but you decide. Of course, a local Hawaiian theme is going to have the best chance of winning… think white sandy beaches, local Hawaiian culture, sunsets holding a rum punch….

The rules for the contest are as follows:
1. Entries should be submitted in .jpeg or .pdf format. (if you hand draw the logo, either scan your work or take a picture of it)
2. Multiple entries are allowed
3. Please abide by all copyright laws.
4. The contest runs from today through 1 April 2017.
5. Entries should be submitted to Ed Romson (Secretary of the Maui Woodturners Association [MWTA]) via email at romson@rocair.com. Ed will acknowledge receipt of your entry by return email. No entries will be accepted after Midnight, 1 April 2017.
6. On or about 2 April, Ed will send the entries to all MWTA members with a survey link with which the members can vote for their favorites. The voting will last for 2 weeks, ending on 14 April
7. If there is a clear winner s/he will be announced at the MWTA April meeting on the 15th and by email thereafter.
8. If there is a tie, a second round of voting to choose between the finalists will take place.
9. The Prizes…. Of course, the best prize will be the pride of knowing that your logo is prominently displayed on all MWTA communications and logo wear. You will also receive a beautiful piece of native Hawaiian koa wood ready to be turned into wonderful piece of art (this will be shipped in a USPS Medium Flat Rate box). You will also receive an AAW turning smock, in either blue or gray. (The smock has a $60 value).

Good luck and Malama Pono (take care).
Ed

Since the first place winner's design is quite intricate, we decided to use that for our print and electronic media. We will be using the second logo for a club patch.

Mahalo and Aloha,
Ed

Those are some nice looking logos. Well done. I really like the butterflies, I figured the island would be in there somewhere, but tell us about the tree. Is that a tree native to Hawaii? Or is someone just very talented and knows how to draw a really nice looking tree? Kudos to the winners...
