The article in the Journal about Mark Lindquist was excellent. I've heard about Mark and seen his work several times but had no idea how influential he has been on the turning world. My congratulations to Mark on the honor being selected a lifetime member. It is well deserved.

Mark Lindquist

Mark is the only one I know who successfully made sculpture by woodturning. Along with Mel and Bob Stocksdale they are at the top of my woodturners list.

I too have followed Mark's work from the time I began woodturning. Not so many forums in those days. I bought a lot of books that I still have and enjoy.

Mark's book " Sculpting Wood" was one of the first I bought. It is full of wonderful information and was an inspiration to me.

I also think that the AAW article was wonderfully written by one of my favorite authors Terry Martin. He is in my opinion the best woodturning writer I have ever read. He seems able to catch the essence of what I love about the turning experience. I am still looking for a copy of his great book "Wood Dreaming" I should have bought it when it was still in print, but it has gone out of my price range these days.

Thanks to both Mark and Terry for your contributions to woodturning. We would all be poorer had you not been involved.

Best wishes,

Dave

I've know Mark's work longer than I have known him. I've always had an appreciation for his work, as well as his Father's work.

Meeting Mark at SOFA in Chicago a few years ago. I was aware of Mark's woodturning past. However, I was not aware of the depth and breadth of his contribution.

So glad to hear we are making newer members aware of turners who have fallen out of the mainstream of woodturning. Kinda paying respect from those that have gone before us.

The new Journals layout and content are superlative. I have been watching, with keen interest, how many "new" authors have been published. I could not be happier with the new Journal

I would like to extend a warm congratulations to Betty Scarpino, for the work she has done to take our Journal's content to new levels.

We could not have asked for more. Keep up the good work!

you said exactly what i was thinking, angelo

I met Mel

I did a demo at the AAW chapter in Tallahassee several years ago and Mel, Mark's father, attended. I had the good fortune to spend a few minutes with him outside during the break. He was a very humble person, such that I had no idea to whom I was speaking with at the time.

When I started turning, I was given two exhibition catalogues, one was of Mark Lindquist's work and the other was Bob Stocksdales 88 bowls. I couldn't have asked for better inspiration.
