From time to time, I find myself browsing through the member's galleries here.......just looking to see what others are doing. Sometimes I find this inspirational, and sometimes I find myself deciding what not to do! Other times, I think there is a lot of talent on display, but just not my style.

For the moderators: Just how many member's galleries are there? How many total photos are there in the galleries?

My usual method is to just click on random images, and view that person's gallery, if I like what I see. As far as I know, there really isn't an organized method of going through all the galleries, so that none are missed. Because of that, I have no idea if I've had a good look at what all the others are doing, or not.

I won't make a comment in the member's gallery, unless a clarification is needed, or I personally like what I see......no need for negativity here. I don't think I've ever given a rating of less than 6 or 7, not sure.....most are probably 8, 9, or 10! With one exception: When I first found this forum, I mistakenly gave someone's bowl a 1 rating......but, that was strictly by accident, because I didn't know what I was doing.

Still, I've never had much desire to participate in the member's galleries myself. I have my own personal gallery on the net......and if anyone is interested in seeing what I'm doing, it's there for anyone to see......just click!

Any comments?

i normallly look at the new posting, then look at main forum, and occasionally go look through their gallery usually after a have looked at their new posting 2 or 3 times

i normally only comment on a new posting 😀

I count 460 albums in the Gallery, but some of them may not actually represent a member. And that is only a quarter of the full forum membership, which is 1836. Fairly good-sized crowd of woodturners!

I guess I'll vote for "frequently," a little stronger than "occasionally."

The forum home page is my bookmark for access. If I see something interesting there, I open in a new window (to reduce regeneration time), and comment favorably or ask for clarification. The random images sometimes pull me in deeper, but they're usually too old for me to consider a new comment. Either way, I've saved a few pictures for insight or later challenges.

I almost never use the AAW home page, except to suggest a Local Chapter search for a newbie on another forum, so I usually miss the photo of the day.

I have the impression, that uploading pictures to the gallery is not available to non-members of the forum. But forum members don't need to be members of AAW itself (I think). I could be wrong about both, of course.

I don't have my own web site, so the gallery here, the Woodworking Australia forum, and North Florida Woodturners, are my only consistent Internet presence. I've dropped out of a couple other forums, because they didn't offer enough opportunity to improve the art, vs the time spent online.

I quite often look at the photo of the day and the other new photos. If I'm really impressed ( doesn't take much) I'll check the turners gallery if they have one. Inspiration is where one finds it.

Correct on both.As soon as you are a forum member, you have space available to upload photos.

Personally I feel the forum is here (funded by the AAW) to the betterment of the wood turning community, and therefor no membership to the AAW required. Although if it wasn't funded by them, I would probably pay for it myself.
