I don't know how many East central Michigan turners are on this forum. I'd like to get an informal or formal club started in the immediate Saginaw area of east Michigan. (Besides it would be a good excuse to clean my shop.) If you have any interest please email me, pm me, or reply here. To get started, I'm thinking maybe the first get together could be "Bring a turning blank to pass!"

starting a club in Saginaw

[hi Jim,
I live1 in Texas, so cant help you.Wishing you well. My Nephew in Louisiana wants to start turning, but there are only 2 clubs in the whole state, the nearest is about a hundred miles away. Hope you have great sucess, MaxSIZE="3"][/SIZE]

Good luck, Jim. Check with local woodworking stores and suppliers etc as well as those in nearby cities/towns and post some announcements as well. Check the AAW membership directory as there may be other members in the area and call and/or email them about it. I regularly drive nearly 100 miles one way to meet with one of the clubs I belong to. It's worth it.

When I halped start Flatland Woodturners in Champaign Ill. I got a list of all the AAW members in Illinois from the AAW office.
The new rescource directory has not been out very long. You may be able to use that to find tem all.
I sent everyone within a 100 mile radius a post card to let them know when we would have our first meeting. We had 2 people drive from 85 miles away to join the club. Our first meeting had about 20 interested woodturnres.

I also posted the cards at variuos places in the nearby towns. ( Grocery store, laundry mat, anywhere people would let me post it. Also got turners that I was not aware of this way. Some have since joined the AAW.
Many people that you tell may know people who like to turn, and will tell them about your plans for a club.
We wound up with a lot of beginers, some intermediate and a few advanced woodturners that were in the area that I did not know.

Good luck and happy turning
Jerry

Jim,
Be sure to contact the AAW office.
The AAW has the ability to send e-mails to all folks in a state.
I think a new chapter would qualify fo an e-mailing.

the AAW will also provide lots of info on starting chapters.

best of luck,
Al
