looking for a chuck to tailstock adapter

I picked up NOVA tailstock adapter that screws into my 1.25" x 8tpi chucks for mounting my chucks on my tailstock. Problem is it's not MT2. It's just a crazy angled thing that appears meant to be chucked in a jacob's chuck. My jacob's chuck is much too small to grab this thing. Am I missing something here?

I'm looking for a solution and having a hard time finding it.
* I can find 1"x8tpi to MT2 unit and therefore I could buy a 1" to 1.25" adapter i suppose.
* I can buy a large jacob's chuck to grip what I have (I really don't want to)
* I can try to find a 3/4"x16tpi (female) to 1.25"x8tpi (male) adapter to screw onto my live center but I'm unable to locate it.

Does anyone know of something I can find that won't end up being a Dr. Frankenstein monster when I'm done? I can't believe I'm unable to locate MT2 to 1.25"x8TPI to mount my chucked work accurately on a vacuum system.

Thanks in advance for any input you might be able to provide.

I agree with Doug. The Woodcraft listing makes it clear it fits an MT2, though it appears to have a shortened tail. The lowest Woodcraft picture in the listing, though, shows it being stuck in a Nova live center. This is confusing. Like the OP, I would have assumed it fit directly into the MT. If it doesn't look like the picture, they sent the wrong thing and you should return it.

At $30, the Best Wood Tools item is cheaper than most adapters and half the price of the Nova part. (Note that the $30 Best Wood Tools adapter is NOT for use in the headstock, it's exclusively an alignment tool. They offer one you can use in both places, for $70.)

I suppose it is defective. The "MT" end is just over an inch and most definitely doesn't seat. The bestwoodtools link is exactly what I was looking for and couldn't find. I'll send back mine.
Thanks folks, appreciate the help.

If you want a live tailstock adapter that you can leave connected in the tailstock while turning (I.e. for safety) then go this route:

Tom, what you have is a M33 adapter for use specifically with the Nova Live Centre:
The live centre has different noses that all fit into a short part-of-MT2-base.
It is NOT intended for separate use in a MT2.

Yes, I was going to explain the same thing as Lars just did. What you have is not defective, but just the same does not appear to be what you want.

For what it's worth I find the different noses available for their Live Center System have frequently been problem solvers.

Problem solved. Funny, PSI has an extremely similar item shown in a jacob's chuck which is how I got confused. I bought the thing before I had any clue what I was doing. I ordered from Bestwoodtools today and have one incoming that will solve my current issues.

The nova is different from the jacobs chuck type. The nova is designed for the nova live center and is larger on the taper end than those that fit jacob chucks. The advantage of the nova is that, when used with their live center, it is a live center free spinning adapter. The MT2 ones like the PMI's are not live center, but fixed. If you do not have the nova live center, that part is pretty useless. Fixed vs. free spinning: may or may not matter. I do like the live version because it's easy to rotate the work to get a better seal when vacuum chucking. Plus you can leave for support while you turn, at least until you have to get it out of the way. The nova live center kit is a very good value purchase. You get a lot of adapters for different things and can make your own custom ones pretty easily. Mike Peace has a great video on this live center. Every bit as good as the oneway, which I also own.

The Nova 5016 fits perfectly in the tailstock of Nova lathes and also into the Nova live center (both of which are MT2). I will find out if it fits my other non Nova lathes later.
